Adelaide Cioni: "Grande assurdo" at Palazzo Collicola, Spoleto

Adelaide Cioni - Grande Assurdo

From the 27th of June 2026 to the 10th of January 2027

P420 is proud to announce Grande assurdo, a solo exhibition by Adelaide Cioni (Bologna, 1976), curated by Saverio Verini at Palazzo Collicola in Spoleto, Italy.

For the occasion, the artist presents a brand-new project, conceived specifically for the ground floor of the Palazzo. This is the artist's first solo exhibition in an Italian public institution: an immersive journey in which each room unfolds as a single vision, populated by geometric, organic and archetypal forms, amidst suspended elements, vertical lawns, recurring symbols and non-human presences. Through materials such as fabric, plaster and wood, Cioni engages with the museum's architecture, enhancing its perspectives, lengths and viewpoints in a continuous perception interplay that transforms the usual configuration of the museum's space.

The exhibition, drawing on influences ranging from art history to the theatre of the absurd via mystical visions, takes the form of a series of enveloping and surprising spaces, leading the visitor beyond the ordinary into a poetic and liberating dimension.

Having lived in Spoleto for a few years, Cioni joins the tradition of artists who have chosen the city as their home, including Sol LeWitt, an important reference point for her work. In keeping with the spirit of the city, the project thrives on an intense dialogue with the region, as evidenced by the involvement of the Sansi Leonardi Volta Art School and its students, who made a vital contribution to the installation; the technical sponsorship provided by Fabiana Filippi, who supplied the textiles used by the artist to create some of the works; and the collaboration with local artisans and craftspeople; as well as on the generous support and dialogue with international art professionals.
