Conceived by Haus der Kunst Munich in 2023, the exhibition Inside Other Spaces: Environments by Women Artists 1956–1976 at the Leeum Museum of Art in Seoul gathers reconstructions of 11 works by female artists who were frequently overlooked by traditional art history. The term "environment," originally introduced by Lucio Fontana, describes immersive installations that invite viewers to step inside and experience the art with their entire body. Spanning two decades of historical exclusion, the exhibition engages all the senses through direct physical participation, sound, light, and tactile contact.

A prominent piece featured in the show is Laura Grisi’s 1968 installation Vento di Sud-Est (Wind Speed 40 knots). In this environment, Grisi artificialized natural atmospheric phenomena indoors by utilizing theatrical fans hidden behind a black slat screen to blast an artificial wind reaching speeds of 40 knots throughout the space. By confronting visitors with a sudden, powerful surge of air within an enclosed room, the artwork forces the viewer to adjust their body, sensory awareness, and physical presence to the raw, displaced force of nature.

Alongside Grisi's wind installation, the exhibition showcases historical reconstructed works from around the globe, accompanied by archival materials such as letters, photographs, and blueprints to ensure faithful representation. By replacing passive viewing with active engagement, the show offers a fresh perspective on the vital contributions made by women artists to the development of immersive, environmental art. Running through November 29, 2026, Inside Other Spaces provides visitors with a rare opportunity to directly experience these pioneering works firsthand.
