EXPOSITIO MUNDI – La mostra come medium
Adelaide Cioni
Curated by Lorenzo Benedetti and Giuliana Pascucci
The exhibition stems from a reflection on the history of exhibitions and their central role in contemporary society. Starting from the figure of Giuseppe Ghezzi, a painter, writer and leading figure in Rome’s artistic life between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, the project identifies the emergence of public exhibitions as a decisive moment of transformation: the artwork leaves the palaces, encounters a wider audience and redefines the concept of social value as something shared and accessible.
From Baroque Rome to the artistic practices of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, EXPOSITIO MUNDI presents the exhibition as a medium: a space in which artworks, audiences, architecture, memory and imagination come together, generating new forms of experience and knowledge.
